Founding member of 80's Canadian rock band Boulevard, Mark's career spans 3 decades. Originally, an engineer/producer with international credits, Mark worked extensively with some highly successful rock/heavy metal acts in North America and Europe. After spending time in Germany in the late 80's working with some of Deutchlands music juggernauts, Mark returned to Canada to launch Boulevard. The first album for MCA Universal generated two top 10 singles, Never Give Up and Far From Over. Mark credits his love of surf music to Eric Von Ziffler, his alter ego.
Keith Scott has spent most of the past 40 years recording and touring with legendary Canadian singer songwriter Bryan Adams, and with occasional forays with other artists namely Jann Arden and Michael Buble.
Mark Holden started his musical career in the mid 70's playing Sax in various bands, and as a studio session player. Additionally, Mark was a founding member of Canadian melodic rock back "Boulevard" which recently reformed to fulfill demand for their music throughout North America and Europe.
The Fontanas was originally conceived by guitarist Keith Scott and songwriter saxophone player Mark Holden, circa 2001 whilst Keith and Mark were reacquainted via mutual friends at a dinner party in their hometown of Vancouver BC Canada. They struck up a conversation and expressed their fondness for music of 1960s California, specifically guitar infused instrumental surf styled music, in the vibe of 'The Ventures', 'Dick Dale' and 'The Surfaris'. Mark had been writing ideas for a pilot TV series since he had been spending time as a location audio recording engineer for the burgeoning TV/film biz in Vancouver.
He was looking for some musical themes to sync for one of his script ideas and asked Keith if he'd be interested in cobbling together some musical ideas. Several weeks after that, they managed to reconnect and succeeded in putting some musical pieces together. After recording together at Keith's studio they crafted a theme song for that pilot series that was not picked up by the networks, but became the foundation for "The Fontanas" first album. Over the next few months, Keith and Mark created the remaining songs of the album with a handful of musicians in several countries, both agreeing that the criteria for those songs to be short and totally irreverent.
After several years of not working together with Mark, Keith revived the idea of The Fontanas after relocating to the San Diego California area. Subsequently another offering of musical ideas was created including an effort at arranging traditional Christmas Carol music with a surf guitar band in mind. Hence we have the most recent collection of music from The Fontanas with a Christmas holiday flavor vibe.
Together Keith and Mark are proud and excited to present their latest surf styled offering to the world to celebrate the holidays: The Fontanas / Surfin' Christmas
