Taking You on a Righteous Ride Through the Sounds of Sixties Surf Rock Revival

BIO

The inception of The Fontanas traces back to a serendipitous reunion between guitarist Keith Scott and songwriter-saxophonist Mark Holden in 2001. Their paths crossed once more through mutual acquaintances at a dinner gathering in their native Vancouver, BC, Canada. Amidst the evening's camaraderie, Keith and Mark discovered their shared affection for the iconic 1960s Californian music scene—especially the guitar-driven, surf-influenced sounds reminiscent of legends like The Ventures, Dick Dale, and The Surfaris.

During this time, Mark was engaged in developing a concept for a TV series, drawing from his experiences as a location audio recording engineer within Vancouver's flourishing television and film industry. In search of musical pieces to complement one of his screenplay ideas, Mark proposed to Keith the opportunity to collaborate on some musical sketches. Their reunion sparked creativity, and within weeks, they reconvened, culminating in the composition of several tracks. Among these, a theme song emerged, originally intended for Mark's pilot but ultimately laying the groundwork for what would become The Fontanas' debut album.

As the project evolved, Keith and Mark expanded their musical exploration, collaborating with an eclectic mix of musicians from across the globe to complete the album. They were unified by a vision for the music to be succinct and unabashedly playful. This initial endeavor not only marked the birth of The Fontanas but also set the tone for their surf and beach style rock n' roll identity, drawing inspiration from a bygone era while injecting it with their unique, irreverent flair.
